World Investor Week (WIW) is a global campaign promoted by IOSCO to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and protection and highlight the various initiatives of securities regulators in these two critical areas. In October, IOSCO securities regulators and other IOSCO members on six continents will provide a range of activities, such as launching investor-focused communications and services, promoting contests to increase awareness of investor education initiatives, organizing workshops and conferences, and conducting local/national campaigns in their own jurisdictions. Jurisdictions can choose a week of October or November to promote financial and investor education.
The key messages of the IOSCO WIW campaign in 2021 will be based on the themes of sustainable finance and frauds and scams prevention. These messages complement those of previous IOSCO WIW editions, such as online investing, initial coin offerings, the basics of investing, and digital learning and online education. The IOSCO WIW campaign continues to gain support among a growing number of jurisdictions, stakeholders and major international organizations. In last year’s IOSCO WIW, participating jurisdictions undertook a range of mostly virtual activities, adapting and delivering them in exceptionally challenging circumstances. This dedication underscores the relevance and top priority that WIW participants give to financial education and investor protection.
As part of the initiatives, the Republic of Serbia has developed and launched a dedicated part of its website, presenting educational information and graphs about the Serbian capital market, separated in four sections: Belgrade Stock Exchange, Central Securities Depository, Investment Firms and Investment Fund Management Companies. In addition, the Securities Commission is developing a HELP DESK for investors which is expected be launched in the following month, and that will serve as a place where investors can obtain answers to their questions and as a knowledge base.
